"Mobilizing for Impact" at the 2013 Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting

_
Traditionally, President Stoyanov and Mr. Stamen Stantchev participated in the invitation-only event. For a ninth consecutive year, the CGI Annual Meeting brought together heads of state, chief executives of companies, directors of major nonprofits, and other global leaders to work jointly towards shaping sustainable solutions to some of the world’s major challenges.

This year’s theme, “Mobilizing for Impact”, explored the ways for CGI members and supporters to be more effective in leveraging individuals and organizations in their commitment efforts. Participants were unified by the idea that lasting and scalable positive results can only be reached through mobilizing the right entities and allowing them to untap their full potential.

Among the highlights of the 2013 CGI Annual Meeting were the opening session with President Bill Clinton hosting a discussion with Bono, Khalida Brohi, Mo Ibrahim, Christine Lagarde, and Sheryl Sandberg; the exclusive discussion between President Barack Obama and President Clinton about the future of healthcare reform in America and access to quality healthcare around the globe; the “Big Bets’ Philanthropy” panel with Bill Gates, and last, but not least – the closing remarks by President Clinton, Secretary Hillary Clinton and Chelsea Clinton.

The Global Citizen Awards, designed in partnership with Donna Karan, honored outstanding individuals who exemplify global citizenship through their vision and actions. The following three categories were presented: Leadership in Civil Society Award granted to young girls’-rights activist Malala Yousafzai, Evangelical pastor Elias Taban, and Barefoot College Founder – Bunker Roy; Leadership in Public Service – to New York City Mayor, Michael R. Bloomberg; and Leadership in the Private Sector to “Hot Bread Kitchen” Founder and CEO, Jessamyn W. Rodriguez, as well as planet-friendly “Method Products” founders – Adam Lowry and Eric Ryan.

CGI’s basic tool to create positive change – the Commitments to Action – continues to attract more and more followers. To date, the bottom line is nearly 2,500 commitments, which are already improving the lives of more than 430 million people in over 180 countries. The CGDC, as a result of its commitment “Education for Change”, boasts the first 13 students who graduated successfully this year.
